Label printers

Thermal and thermal transfer printers are nowadays the most popular devices for printing labels in many branches. The printing technology consists in spot heating the ink in the thermal transfer ribbon and transferring it to the labels moving under the print head. Thermal transfer technology makes it possible to print on a variety of substrates – paper labels, foil labels, textiles, or synthetic adhesive-free tags, ensuring very high quality and durability of prints. Label printers provide a possibility of printing large volumes as well as single copies.  When choosing a label printer for our industry and application we are guided by various criteria such as print resolution, print width, printer size and its performance. The company’s offer includes a wide range of thermal and thermal transfer printers from renowned manufacturers: Zebra, TSC, Citizen, Printronix, Honeywell, Toshiba. We recommend the ETILABEL sofrware to operate thermal and thermal transfer printers.

HIGH RESOLUTION PRINTERS

Print resolution is defined by the abbreviation of an English term DPI (dots per inch). A higher number stands also for a more detailed print. Printers with high-resolution print heads 300 dpi or 600 dpi are used for printing bar codes, 2D codes on small labels, e.g., in the electronics industry, automotive industry and in laboratories. Higher resolution provides us with a guarantee of legibility of small fonts and high quality of printed graphic images – pictures, logotypes, certificates.

INDUSTRIAL PRINTERS FOR PRODUCTION

Industrial printers are designed with high durability, performance, and integration into production lines in mind. Industrial printers are equipped with a metal printing mechanism that ensures uninterrupted 24/7 operation. A robust, metal housing contains and provides protection against dustiness to large rolls of consumables.  Printers for production are usually equipped with a control panel with a display and button which facilitate their configuration as well as with communication ports which make it possible to easily integrate the device in any working conditions (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, GPIO). The labels with a bar code for marking components and finished goods printed with the aid of them make automatic identification of products possible. To ensure 100% correctness of printed bar codes, printer manufacturers have introduced printers with a code verifier, which verifies the legibility and correctness of codes already during printing.

PRINTERS FOR LOGISTICS AND WAREHOUSE

In the logistics and warehousing industry where GS1 logistics labels of 148×210mm format are the standard, printers with 6-inch and 8-inch-wide heads are used.  For printing warehouse and shipping labels of 105×148 mm, a 4-inch-wide print head is sufficient. Printers designed for operation in a warehouse should have an internal material tray to accommodate a large label roll. This solution saves working time of the operator who does not waste precious minutes on exchanging consumables. This also supports cleanliness of the labels encapsulated in the casing. Communication ports (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, GPIO) make it possible to easily integrate the device in any conditions. Printers with the automatic emulation system can correctly interpret control codes of the right printer manufacturers or printer languages. This provides easy integration of the printer and compatibility with the user’s systems. Label printers equipped with an integrated bar code verifier eliminate the risk of printing illegible codes.

DESKTOP PRINTERS FOR ADMINISTRATION AND LABORATORIES

The introduction of desktop models by printer manufacturers has led to the popularization of applications, not only on production lines but also in offices, quality control departments, laboratories, and commerce. Above all, desktop printers are smaller in size. Regardless of the housing size, desktop printers can be equipped with a print head with a width of 4 or 6 inches, or with high resolution, modern communication ports and material cutters. For office applications this is sufficient, and their undeniably greatest advantage is their low price. They are used for printing identification, inventory, chemical and address labels. The printer may be additionally equipped with an automatic cutter or label separator which facilitate the application process.

Label printer

A label printer is one of AutoID devices used in modern companies.  Thanks to it marking and labelling process can be significantly accelerated and simplified. Discover Etisoft offer and benefit from one of the most practical tools for industrial printing optimisation!

Label printer is an essential tool in a company

With the widespread of automatic identification solutions, the introduction of printing and labelling equipment is a milestone in the development of any company.  Ordering ready-made labels or using printing services from external print shops is possible, but some processes require a greater level of independence and local solutions. That is why companies should have their own fleet of label printing to maintain flexibility.

Here are some examples of the application of self-adhesive label printers!

Electronics industry To optimise the production and uninterrupted marketing of electronic devices such as computers, monitors or TV sets, it is necessary to label them with a variety of different labels. Printers for labels make it possible to prepare the appropriate imprinting right on the production line.

Automotive industry: nameplates, identification labels, information labels. These are just a few examples of the types of labels which allow for traceability of production batches and the unambiguous identification of products. The industrial label printer will allow for 24/7 label printing.

Household appliances: One of the most well-known examples are energy labels, which include the list of energy parameters of various household appliances and list the product advantages. A label printer makes it possible to flexibly print information depending on the model being produced.

Laboratories and blood centres: Various labels resistant to chemical reagents, inventory labels and identification labels. The use of a printer for labels in the laboratory will make it possible to easily identify the labelled sample, trace the exact course of tests and processes which it was subjected to.

Label printer – Types and differences

Label printers can be used in many industries, and they support numerous processes. On the basis of the expected application, companies may look for models with different parameters. Fortunately, printers for labels offered on the market can be divided according to different categories.

Printing technology/Principle of operation

Thermal printers: this type of equipment offers the most cost-effective way of printing labels since it does not require any additional ribbon, toner, or ink. During operation, the print head of the printer directly heats up, in selected spots, a paper coated with a thermoactive substance which is discoloured by the heat. Thermal printers guarantee legible printing; however, they are recommended for printing labels for goods which are used for a short period of time, e.g., labels for food products, fruit weighed on self-service scales in supermarkets, labels for courier parcels or all types of fiscal and non-fiscal receipts.

Thermal transfer printers: in this type of devices, the print head heats up the pigment contained in the thermal transfer ribbon and transfers it onto the label. Thermal transfer technology allows us to print on different substrates, such as paper or foil. It is also suitable for colour printing. Depending on the type of thermal transfer ribbon and substrate on which we want to print, the end result is much more durable than in the case of thermal printers.

Print resolution

The print resolution of labels is abbreviated to DPI (dots per inch). A higher number stands also for a more detailed imprint of higher quality. To meet the expectations and needs of a wide range of customers, Etisoft offers devices with the resolution of 200, 300, 400 and 600 DPI.

Print width

It is significant that the printed label is of a size which is compatible with the application interface. That is why label printers in our assortment are also available in categories grouped according to print width. Our scope of sizes is as follows:

• 2 inches (5.08 cm)

• 4 inches (10.16 cm)

• 6 inches (15.24 cm)

• 8 inches (20.32 cm)

How to connect a label printer to the computer

Almost every label printer needs a computer connection to operate. The easiest way to do so is to use a USB port, but you can also choose a more convenient, modern solution from the Etisoft offer. Our devices make it possible to use more convenient network communication via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Thanks to that the printer can be operated from multiple computers. Some of our models also have a GPIO connector.

Colour or black-and-white printing

Are you looking for a colour label printer? Choose consumables which make colour print with thermal transfer printers possible or go for an inkjet printer or laser printer designed specifically for this purpose.
