Security labels

Security label – constitutes a kind of protection against unauthorised access to the product or its packaging. An attempt to remove the label results in its damage. As a consequence, it is impossible to use it again, and such attempt becomes visible. Depending on the materials used, a security label delaminates during an attempt to peel it off revealing a caption (usually VOID) or tears off which makes it impossible to peel it off as a whole.

  • a security label is a part of guarantee systems
  • simple information about unauthorised interference
  • it secures the interests of manufacturers and suppliers

Warranty seals

Seal labels are used to protect electronic devices and computers against unauthorized opening. Attempting to open it results in the destruction of the label and, as a consequence, the loss of the warranty. The warranty seal crumbles, delaminates or makes the VOID inscription visible when it is attempted to break. Sealing labels applied to the packaging also have a theft protection function and are a confirmation of the original product.

  • protection of elements against unwanted manipulation
  • Label resistance to harsh environments
  • Proven solution in the electronics industry

Security labels

Seal labels used to protect the packaging of exclusive products have not only a protective function, but also an image function. Their task is to ensure the integrity of the content and to provide the customer with the certainty that the product is genuine. In the case of premium goods, aesthetics are also important – these labels are often distinguished by elegant design, high quality materials and additional elements such as holograms or unique serial numbers.

  • protecting product packaging from theft
  • confirmation of the originality of the product
  • hologram seal labels

Seal labels in the medical industry

Sealing labels are used to secure cassettes and containers with biological material, during storage or during transport. The seal protects the laboratory material from unauthorized interference. When you try to peel it off, the label is destroyed, which makes it impossible to detach and re-stick it in its entirety. Seal labels can also be used to protect cabinets, drawers and laboratory rooms, as a complement to the labels within  the etiCALLS system.

  • protection of samples and documents against unauthorized interference
  • excellent adhesion of labels to various surfaces
  • Label resistance to moisture, chemicals, high and low temperatures

Labels for securing medicine packaging

Anti Tempering labels are used to protect medicine packages from unauthorized opening. The security label allows you to verify that the packaging with medicines has not been tampered with during distribution and sale. Security labels can be made of materials that are damaged or permanently damage the surface of the box when you try to open the package. Anti Tempering Device security labels are packaged in rolls that allow the use of automatic application systems.

  • label resistance from -60oC to +130oC
  • adhesion to lacquered packaging
  • transparent label does not cover the graphics on the packaging
  • possibility of perforation on the label

Tamper-evident labels

A tamper-evident label protects a product or package against unauthorized access. Upon any attempt to peel it off, it either delaminates to reveal a “VOID” pattern or tears into small fragments, making reapplication impossible and leaving any tampering clearly visible. Etisoft, a label manufacturer for over thirty years, produces warranty seals and security labels for manufacturers of electronic, electrical, and home appliance equipment, as well as the pharmaceutical industry, matching the film to the specific substrate where the seal will perform. In customer inquiries, this topic recurs under various terms: self-adhesive seal, self-adhesive security seals, VOID label, warranty sticker, tamper-evident sticker, security seal stickers, and seal label.

How tamper-evident label works

The operating mechanism of a security seal relies on irreversible material damage during any removal attempt. Destruction of the seal prevents it from being reapplied to the same or another location. Depending on the material used, the label responds in one of two ways when peeled off:

  • Delaminates, revealing a “VOID” warning pattern.
  • Breaks into into tiny pieces, making it impossible to remove in a single piece.

Etisoft offers warranty labels in white and silver options. They are constructed from specialized films that guarantee any attempt to compromise the seal leaves a permanent, unmistakable trace, making reapplication impossible. This provides a simple, highly effective safeguard against unauthorized access.

Directives and standards for Anti-Tampering labels

The pharmaceutical industry maintains specific requirements for security labels used on drug packaging, known as Anti-Tampering Devices (ATD). Etisoft manufactures pharmaceutical labels in full compliance with the Falsified Medicines Directive, using materials with low-migration adhesives certified by ISEGA, EMA, and the FDA, operating strictly under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

The Falsified Medicines Directive (Directive 2011/62/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 8 June 2011) and Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/161 of 2 October 2015 lay down detailed rules for safety features on medicinal packaging. These regulation mandates specify two safety features: a unique identifier in 2D Data Matrix ECC 200 format and an anti-tampering device (ATD label) to verify package integrity. This requirement applies to prescription drug packaging released for circulation after February 9, 2019.

Etisoft Sp. z o.o. manufactures tamper-evident labels in accordance with:

  • ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System (valid until April 4, 2027)
  • ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System (valid until April 4, 2027)
  • IATF 16949:2016 – Quality Management System for the Automotive Industry (valid until August 21, 2028)
  • Falsified Medicines Directive 2011/62/EU alongside Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/161 – safety features for drug packaging, including ATD
  • GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
  • ISEGA, EMA, FDA – Certifications for low-migration adhesives used in pharmaceutical and laboratory labels

Costs and pricing

The effectiveness of security protection depends on precisely matching the film to the substrate where the warranty seal will be applied. Material selection, adhesive type, and printing technology are tailored individually to client needs. Final pricing is influenced by label format and total order volume.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How does a tamper-evident label differ from a regular sticker?

A regular sticker can be peeled off and reapplied. A tamper-evident label delaminates upon removal to display a “VOID” pattern or tears into tiny fragments, ensuring any attempt at tampering is immediately visible.

What does the word “VOID” on a seal mean?

“VOID” is a text pattern that appears when a seal is peeled off, indicating “invalid” or “canceled” – referring to the voiding of a warranty or the compromise of original packaging integrity.

Does a broken warranty seal void the product warranty?

Tamper-evident labels are used to safeguard electronic equipment and computers against unauthorized opening; attempting to open them typically results in warranty voidance. A missing or damaged warranty label often indicates unauthorized self-repair attempts. However, the exact scope and terms of a warranty are defined by the device manufacturer, not the label manufacturer.

Will the security seal adhere to varnished packaging?

Pharmaceutical security labels are designed to adhere securely to varnished packaging, and transparent versions do not obstruct packaging graphics. To ensure maximum security, the film and adhesive are selected according to the specific packaging substrate.

Can security seals be applied automatically?

Yes. Anti-Tampering Device (ATD) security labels are supplied on rolls formatted specifically for automated applicator systems.

What resistance levels do medical and pharmaceutical seals offer?

Medical tamper-evident labels feature high resistance to moisture, chemicals, and both high and low temperatures.

Can a tamper-evident label feature a serial number or hologram?

Yes. Tamper-evident labels can be printed with unique serial numbers or manufactured using specialized holographic films.

Where are tamper-evident seals used outside of electronics?

While warranty stickers are commonly associated with computers, electronic devices, and machinery, tamper-evident labels have broader applications. In the medical sector, they secure cassettes and containers holding biological materials during storage and transport. In pharmaceuticals, ATD labels are applied to drug packaging. Security seals are also used on luxury product packaging (cosmetics, perfumes), serving both to prevent unauthorized opening and to verify product authenticity.

How are security seals printed?

Tamper-evident labels are most commonly printed using thermal transfer technology. Pre-printed labels can be ordered directly from Etisoft, or blank labels can be printed in-house using your own thermal transfer printer.
