In this article we will be showing the solutions for batch data processing . A certain amount of data is prepared in the master system and is sent to the mobile device which they are processed in. The result of this operation is sent back to the master system. Mostly, the data collectors exchange information via a communication dock located near the PC position. In that case, we can use two ways to connect the collectors to the central system:
- with the client application installed as a PC
- directly with the Ethernet connection to a central server.
Data transfer can be done in several ways:
- radio via WiFi, GSM, Bluetooth, and custom solutions operating in the 433MHz
- via the communication dock with electrical contacts or the transmission of infrared
- the exchange of data on memory cards.

Comparison of radio and batch mode communication
Frequently offered mobile devices allow to communicate in both ways. So you can ask the question: why do we exchange data with the main application in the enterprise for data in batch mode if mobile devices can use the online application anyway, e.g. through a web browser?
This solution enables operators to go beyond the range of the radio network. For example, warehouseman can do the loading and unloading goods to the truck on large storage areas. Communication with the central system will only be near to the loading points or office space. Therefore, there is no need to build costly network infrastructure over a large area.
Another reason for choosing this solution is speed of the operation. In 3G networks the delay parameter associated with the End User Expirience (EUE - Response Time - send a request to the server and get a response) is greatest because of the relatively high propagation in the transmission of data packets. Even in a fast 3G connection there is a 2 seconds delay obtained. To fulfil data in the sheet consisting of 5 fields, the operator need over a minute due to the slow response of the terminal interface.
Moreover, there may occur the additional delays associated with online processing, exchange interfaces with ERP systems, etc.
Data collector records the data in local memory, without a complex process, which translates into the delays caused by record that are transparent to the operator. Working with terminal is fast and comfortable, the device responds "immediately".

The undoubted disadvantage of this solution is the inability of communication between program and the company database during the process implementation and thus the current process control. Exchange of information in the case of solutions with communication dock requires the handling of the device at a certain point, which lengthens the operators’ paths in their working area.

Today, companies are constantly induced to modify their processes, following the quality of services and goods offered by competitors. This situation necessitates changes in processes, and hence, the introduction of modifications to the software. The programs update on mobile devices should be carried at one time. For a large number of batch devices, it is logistically difficult, costly and takes time, especially if the organization is placed in several locations. Online appliances are devoid of this defect. The modification occurs on the server and, from that moment, all mobile devices use the new software.
